While in HSV, we came across Ruby. Ruby had been living in the woods near mom and dad's house for almost a month. She had been skittish when people came near her and I'm sure because of this, she was never caught by animal control. On Father's Day we saw her around the lake. She would take food from us. Later that day we went back to try and capture her. But she wouldn't let us get a collar on her and just kept running off. The next morning we woke up and she was on mom and dad's yard (apparently their neighbor had been feeding her for a week). We tried to get her in the garage and she again backed away anytime we got close to closing the door. I decided to bring Levi out and see if she would follow him. She eventually followed him up the porch. Again, she wouldn't let me get behind her to close the gate. So instead, mom continued to feed her while I ran back around the house. When Ruby figured it out she took off down the stairs as I was going up. I picked her up and put her back on the porch and closed the gate. From that point, she wasn't afraid of us and stayed on the porch without trying to escape.
Ruby was covered in fleas and ticks. She had ticks the size of a thumb nail all over her. We took her to mom and dad's vet and had her dipped. Most of the bigger fleas fell off during the dip. When we got home we picked through her fur and pulled off several more ticks. And then she made the ride back to Texas with us the next day.
She is a sweet dog, but still very much a puppy. She looks as though she's had a litter of puppies but also has a scar from a spay. Ruby has made herself at home in Trophy Club. She is great with the other dogs and Gracie enjoys playing with her. Ellie tolerates her but is getting too old to play. And Mexi Kitty is a different story. Mexi doesn't want to have anything to do with Ruby because she just chases her. So for now, Mexi Kitty is an upstairs kitty. The little girls love having her up there.
